The primary problem I aimed to solve with the design of the Flavum Healthtech website was the complexity and accessibility barriers faced by women and cancer patients—specifically those with breast and cervical cancer—when seeking medical appointments.

Complex Appointment Booking Process: Many patients, especially those in vulnerable health conditions, face difficulties navigating complex appointment booking systems. The challenge was to create a streamlined, simple, and intuitive process for booking doctor appointments, reducing unnecessary steps and confusion.

Lack of Personalized Healthcare Access: Patients often struggle to find the right specialists for their specific needs. I wanted to provide an easy way to connect patients with the appropriate doctors, personalized to their condition (e.g., breast or cervical cancer).

User Experience for Sensitive Audiences: Given the sensitive nature of the audience, the design needed to be both compassionate and user-friendly. The problem was creating a design that would resonate with the emotional needs of patients while also providing the functional elements required for a smooth user experience.

Navigational Challenges for Older or Less Tech-Savvy Users: Many women, especially older patients, may not be as familiar with navigating digital health platforms. I aimed to design a site that was not only intuitive but also accessible, ensuring that users with varying levels of tech proficiency could easily use the platform.

Challenge: Designing for a sensitive audience, including women and cancer patients, required balancing empathy with functionality. Understanding the emotional toll of cancer treatment and translating this into an intuitive and comforting design was a delicate task.

Designing for Accessibility

Challenge: Translating complex healthcare information into a digestible and easy-to-navigate format was a challenge, especially when dealing with detailed profiles for doctors, appointment scheduling, and medical specialties.

Solution: Focused on clear categorization, intuitive navigation, and keeping the language simple to ensure users could easily find the right doctor and appointment times without feeling overwhelmed.

Challenge: Ensuring the design integrated smoothly with the existing backend systems (for booking, user accounts, etc.) was a technical hurdle, especially since I wasn’t directly involved in the development.

Solution: Regular collaboration with developers helped ensure that the design was technically feasible and aligned with backend capabilities. Frequent meetings and feedback loops ensured seamless integration between design and functionality.

Balancing Aesthetic and Functional Requirements

Challenge: The design needed to be both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional, catering to a wide demographic with varying levels of health literacy and technical expertise.

Solution: A clean, minimalistic design was adopted, focusing on essential information and user actions. Iterative prototyping and feedback from stakeholders helped refine the visual design while maintaining usability.

These challenges were overcome through a combination of empathy-driven design, user feedback, collaboration with developers, and rigorous testing, resulting in a user-friendly and accessible platform for patients.
